Synesis Software - Software Licenses

Last Updated: 6th November 2006

Synesis Software provides software (source code and/or binary components) to the development community under a number of different license agreements, each tailored to the specific requirements of each provision arrangement.

These six license agreements are also available - under the Synesis Software Standard Public License (SSSPL) - for use by any organisation or individual for their own purposes.

The licenses are as follows:

Synesis Software Open License (SSOL) Source code Use of this license effectively relinquishes all rights to the licensed software, which becomes the property of the development community at large.
Synesis Software Standard Source License (SSSSL) Source code This license allows the source code to be used in any commercial / non-commercial context without restriction, except that the software, whether in the exact form received or in any modified form derived thereof, remains the property of the original provider, and the license information contained within the received software in the source code must be retained in whole.
Synesis Software Standard Public License (SSSPL) Source code and/or binary components This license is identical to the SSSSL with the additional requirement that any binary components redistributed must be accompanied by the copyright notice, contact information and the list of conditions in the documentation and/or other written materials provided with the distribution.
Synesis Software Non-commercial Public License (SSNPL) Source code and/or binary components This license is identical to the SSSPL, with the exception that the software, or any software derived from or making use of it, may not be used for any commercial purposes.
Synesis Software Public Library License (SSPLL) Source code Incorporates the SSSPL, with the additional requirement that the user is required to submit any modifications back to the original provider for the purpose of merging such modification, subject to the discretion of the provider, back into the library in order to provide an updated and/or enhanced version of the library.
Synesis Software Citation Public License (SSCPL) Source code and/or binary components Incorporates SSSPL, with the additional requirements that the user must place prominent citations stating the name of the original provider into the source-code, executable programs and any associated literature of any work based on or using the software. Citations in the executables programs must be in the About Box (or similar concept) of a program interacting with the user via a Graphical User Interface (GUI), or in the form of an information string to be printed to the console along with other help and version information of a non-GUI or command-line program.
Synesis Software Private Supply License (SSPSL) Source code and/or binary components Incorporates the SSCPL, with the additional requirement that the user may not pass on the software in any form on to any other third party, without prior written consent from the original provider.
